Leadership
Board of Directors
Meet the elected officials who guide the Garden State Watercolor Society — the volunteers who set direction, serve our members, and keep the organization running.
Governance
How the Society is Governed
The Garden State Watercolor Society is led by a volunteer Board of Directors elected by the membership. Board members take on defined roles, from oversight of the society's programs to the communication of its activities, and they work alongside the many members who give their time to exhibits, juries, workshops, and outreach.
Questions about the board, its committees, or the organization's bylaws can be directed to the society at lynnvarga.gsws@gswcs.com.

The Garden State Watercolor Society exists to bring water-based painters together around a shared love of watercolor, and its board page is where that mission becomes visible in practice. Rather than describing only what the society paints, the site opens a window onto the many supporting subjects that surround the art — gardens, blooms, koi ponds, watering techniques, hose capacity, lawn care, and the horticultural details that artists often choose to depict. These themes run through the site's content and give the watercolor focus a warm, grounded setting.
A volunteer Board of Directors guides the society, and the page frames these elected officials as the people who set direction, serve members, and keep the organization running smoothly. Board members take on clearly defined responsibilities, ranging from oversight of programs and exhibitions to the communication of activities and the coordination of outreach. Just as painters build a composition layer by layer, this structure assembles many small efforts into one functioning organization.
The governance section explains how decisions are made and how the society is run, which is helpful reading for anyone curious about how a member-led arts organization actually operates behind the scenes. Volunteers give their time to exhibits, juries, workshops, and events, so much of the society's visible activity rests on donated effort. Understanding the board's role adds context to every exhibition announcement, tutorial, or gathering that appears elsewhere on the site.
For artists and visitors alike, the board page offers a clear point of contact with the people responsible for the society's programs and communications. Questions about membership, exhibition participation, workshops, or involvement can be directed to the appropriate representatives rather than left unanswered. This kind of open line to leadership is one of the quiet strengths of a member organization, where encouragement and clarity often come from the same small group of committed volunteers.
The site's overall presentation reflects the same sensibility the society brings to its work: clean structure, generous space, and a restrained palette that lets the artwork speak. Muted warm gray and soft cream sections give way to a deep charcoal footer, while a mustard gold accent marks headlines and underlines, and solid black buttons with white lettering point clearly toward next steps. Nothing is over-rounded or shadowed; the design stays flat and direct, much like a well-laid-out watercolor palette.
